A Taste of Bordeaux – AMA Waterways April 23-30, 2026 (with pre and post extensions available!)
Ready to go on a different sort of river cruise in 2026? This cruise will depart in late April with
lots of pre and post extensions? Experience the AMA Waterways Taste of Bordeaux on this
small ship in France.
We have about 14 staterooms left on this beautiful seven-day cruise in the southwest of France
at all levels. Have you ever been on the Garonne or Dordogne Rivers?
Most of the group plans to start their tour with two nights in the heart of Spain and then two
nights in the seaside resort of San Sebastian near the France/Spain border before the cruise.
You will embark in Bordeaux and enjoy tours of centuries-old vineyards and taste Bordeaux’s
finest vintages throughout your river cruise experience. I am not even a wine lover, but look
forward to the history, the bike riding, and the quaint stops along the way. AMA River Cruises
are a bit more all-inclusive than Viking and provide a spectacular product! Read more below and
book early for best pricing and availability at this beautiful springtime of year. Read below for the
itinerary and call soon!
From San Sebastion, we will transition to the Bordeaux area in the southwest corner of France
to start our weeklong cruise on the Garonne River and the Dordogne Rivers.
AMA Waterways is a worthy competitor with Viking, having excellent food, a smaller number of
guests on board and a few more perks along the way: bicycles on board, a fitness area, a
whirlpool and lots of options for more included tours. If you have enjoyed the river on Viking, I
think you will be even more pleased with the country-club casual ambience on AMA cruises.
The timing will be perfect with a departure on April 18 th and arrival back home on April 29 th !
Staterooms with AMA Waterways sell out quickly – the rooms on the Ama Dolce ship are a little
larger than with Viking and have a full sliding door to look out rather than a sit-out verandah.
This is fine, considering that it will be April. There is a full sun deck on top as well as a couple of
dining areas besides the main dining room! I am happy to send you more info or look at the
website AMAWAterways.com under the ship, AMA Dolce.
In checking availability today, there is 1 more suite, 1 A+ room (225 sq ft), and many B and A
rooms as well as some rooms with just a fixed window. The cabin deposit is $400 per person
and the final (unlike Viking), is not due until January of 2026. There are also post-cruise
extensions if you are interested. All of these options come with special pricing if booked soon.
